In this morning’s LA Times, Attorney General Anthony Mukasey discusses the critical importance of Congress renewing the Protect America Act. This act closes a dangerous gap in our intelligence capabilities created by the expansion of new technologies since the original passage of FISA legislation in 1978, and applies only to intelligence targets overseas. The Senate intelligence committee has passed a bipartisan bill by a vote of 13-2 that will preserve our intelligence gathering capabilities and protect telecommunications companies assisting the US government by providing vital information. Unfortunately, the House is considering two bills to extend this act that do NOT adequately address either the gaps in intelligence or protecting companies that assist U.S. authorities, and time is running out.
Mike Soraghan reports in The Hill on dramatic increases in office spending by Congressional leadership over previous years. Speaker Nancy Pelosi spent $16,000 in taxpayer money over the last year on flowers for her office, and increased the staff in the Speaker’s office from 35 to 51. Overall, Pelosi’s office spending increased 63% during her first year in office from Hastert’s final year, with Minority Leader Boehner’s spending rising 12%. Its no wonder that Congress has been unable to gain control over earmarks and runaway spending while our national debt continues to skyrocket. |

Funny how some wish to dissemble by misdirection to point at $16k of flowers. As if that were i more relevant to total spending than what we have spent on troops and treasure in an extra optional bonus war in Iraq (which actually strengthened Iran.) Iraq was once a counterbalance to Iran. Now we carry the world's burdens ourselves and the rest of world laughs, condemns, and yet hopes we do more more more to the point of exhaustion or bankruptcy. This lessens our power and the rest of the world knows it.

Dear Godless USA, Have you been drinking again? Suggestion: Get a job or go to school and take an English class, and a math class to see how much a trillion dollar EXTRA, BONUS WAR costs. I guess it costs you nothing though, since you don't believe in paying your beloved wars by taxes. Vote G.O.P. ..Git yer WAR for FREE!!! Yippee. (Enjoy Your War) I don't think the troops appreciate being pushed into that Extra Bonus Iraq War by Cheney, the Bushwhacker and Rupert Murdoch with his toady "journalists" to become pawns to fight Israel's and BigOil's battles...becoming bait for i.e.d.s by DABbing (Driving around Baghdad)

kemosabee. Since you find the USA such a digusting amoral country being led by the ignorant , then why don't you join your brethren in Iran. You find nothing wrong with 16K on flowers, and the over 50% increase in office staff? Who pays for all of the increases? Do you think she pays for it out of her own considerable fortune? I think not. Did she pay for the new aircraft that she commandeered citing security concern as the new craft can make the flight nonstop. This is the same woman who wants to eliminate the Second amendment saying that regular law enforcement is doing a great job. I'm not knocking the police, but even they admit that the best that they can do is pick up the bodies and maybe catch the responsible party .

keemo, you are obviously a product of better living through chemistry. And a broken record on top of that. What we need is to get rid of the old blood both parties and get new blood in.
By the way, what's your plan? How would you deal with the islamic butchers? Oh that's right you believe they'd leave us alone.

'..dissemble by misdirection to point at $16k of flowers'..NO. Going way beyond excess spending for ofice flowers. Indictive of a personal "lack" of sense of prudent stewardship. $16,000.00 is more money than a soldier, "life given" for YOU 'kimo' is worth by a Godless USA!
