Supporting the Troops Year Round, by Melanie Morgan

Hi Everybody,

I'm Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward, which is the largest pro-troop organization in the country with over a million members, www.moveamericaforward.com

Move America Forward is so proud to be partnered with Freedoms Watch, an organization that is determined NOT to let our country forget our military men and women, not only through the Holidays, but into the foreseeable future.

Both of our groups are passionate about the military because our guys and gals represent the best and brightest of their generations.

They volunteer to stand in harm's way on our behalf with the highest standards of conduct in the World. They are fighting for a true and just cause in Iraq and in Afghanistan, and they stand guard over dozens of other hot-spots around the world, for long stretches of time away from their families.

I'm leaving my own family this Christmas to visit our troops in Iraq to personally deliver over 100,000 cards and letters that Move America Forward is collecting from patriotic folks in 40 cities.  We are calling it our "Honoring Heroes at the Holidays" tour that will end at Ground Zero New York on Sunday, December 16th. Freedoms Watch helped us every single step along the way.

When I get to Baghdad,  hopefully our delegation will get a chance to visit some of the  forward operating bases (FOB's) to spread some more Christmas cheer.

Before I cram my bags full of cards,  Eric e-mailed me a wonderful surprise --he told me to log onto the website to watch the television ad's Freedom's Watch began running yesterday.

Wow! They take my breath away!

I hope every American adult, teen, and child gets to watch these television commericals. The thing I really like about them is they are so simple, so clear in their message --THANK-YOU to the men and women of our armed forces!

Americans rich and poor, black and white, grown-ups and kids are expressing their love and support.

I know first hand how important that message is for our troops. I was in Iraq two years ago, when the war wasn't going nearly so well as it is now.

I interviewed hundreds of the troops, and every single person told me that they believe in themselves and their mission.

Our troops have access to cable TV, the Internet, and newspapers where they read about the petty squabbling that goes on, but when they hear from us that we still support them--NO MATTER WHAT--well, that makes a difference too.

If you are in the Washington, D.C. area on Friday night December 14th, please join  Move America Forward and Freedom's Watch at the Lincoln Theatre for a concert we call "A Song for their Service."

We've got some great acts including Mark Mills, a rockin' country and western singer with two #1 hits, some R&B performers, and patriotic performers like Diana Nagy and Lloyd Marcus.

We have invited some of the wounded from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Center as our honored guests.

The link is HOT at Ticketmaster. Use it! Come join us!

I could go on and on, but I think I'll stop here. But before I sign off, read what some of the kids are writing to our soldiers.

Children really do get it --sometimes better than the adults.

Dear Soldier,
I’m making you a card. I hope you be careful out there in the Army. Make sure you watch out for those line minors (land mines). I know - I hate those too. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

to all service men and women, this is something i wrote for my uncle francis burke who died by friendly fire in 1951 in korea. i hope it does some good.-------------here we are again,w.w.1, 2,korea,nam,has no end, we`re in iraq now,our boys and girls away a far,it`s hard to perceive, why our boys and girls have this destiny, some day the world will see,the sadams of the universe can not be ,like our forefather and mothers, our sisters and brothers, our daughters and sons, and the ones we haven`t heard from, our relatives of all kinds, our best friends all who have died,we can`t look back now,we have to look ahead, throught our childrens eyes, so we don`t have to fight, on our ocean`s sides,i saw a man in a wheel chair the other day,he served in nam,he had no legs,he said when he came home, everyone look away, these boys and girls in iraq, they`ll come home heroes someday,as he said, they should be,they to will lose their legs the same as me,now we see bombs fly through the air,in korea, nam, it seemed some didn`t care,so to the people who oppose,we try to understand, i suppose, you say your afraid, well so are we,so let`stick together, and help iraq be free,so our boys and girls ,daughters and sons, our best friends, and everyone, can come home to the land of the free, that`s what were fighting for, you and me.
