Ralph Peters in a New York Post column discusses what has gone right in Iraq.  From the perseverance of our troops in the face of adversity, to a winning strategy with the surge, to leadership committed to victory, Peters describes an Iraq now full of hope and described as a growing success.

The situation in Iraq has im proved so rapidly that Democrats now shun the topic as thoroughly as they shun our troops when the cameras aren't around.

Yes, Iraq could still slip back into reverse gear. And no, we're not going to get a perfect outcome. But the positive indicators are now so strong that the left's defeatist lies are losing traction among the American people.

Attacks of every kind are down by at least half - in some cases by more than three-quarters. A wounded country's struggling back to health. And our mortal enemies, al Qaeda's terrorists, have suffered a defeat from which they may never fully recover: They've lost street cred.

Our dead and wounded have not bled in vain.

Michelle Malkin writes an article for National Review reminding Americans why they should stop and be thankful for all of the troops and veterans this Thanksgiving.  Malkin describes the story of a wounded American soldier in Iraq and the contributions of various charitable organizations to his cause; while reminding us that as we struggle with holiday stress, our troops are sacrificing for our freedom.

Before Thanksgiving brings out the worst in you, stop before you gripe. Give thanks for noisy houses, healthy children and overflowing company. Give thanks for bounteous tables, rambunctious friends and neighbors, life and limb. And give thanks for those who give of themselves — in service to our nation, in civic duty and in answer to His call — all year ‘round. That is all.

An answer for "jono"

It seems to be only matter of time before the 'average' woefully uneducated people show up here to re-repeat the same intellectually vacuous criticisms I've heard so many times before. Criticisms (talking-points) they've likely had implanted in their heads by completely disingenuous (and radical-Leftist) 'spin' doctors.

How many millions of civilians perished in the war against the thoroughly evil, monstrous, and racist regimes of NAZI Germany and Imperial Japan? How many millions of people were also displaced, often permanently, as a result of this last 'world' war?

Was it America's fault when the SS 'stepped up' their efforts to mass-exterminate human beings after it became totally obvious to Germany's NAZI government that 'their' war was lost?

Personally, I dispute this "1 million" dead figure. But even if this number is, in fact, true... the horrendous war crimes committed by various 'Islamic-Fascist groups' is certainly NOT the fault of our military, our government, or our people.

If anyone, other then the perpetrators of such war crimes, is responsible for all the recent human suffering and death in Iraq... it would be the hypocritical Nations (and people) of this world who've done nothing to help America fight this war against Islamic Terrorism.

"Contrary to the myths of the left, peace can only be built over the corpses of evil men." - Ralph Peters (from the New York Post column referenced above).

"to a winning strategy with the surge, to leadership committed to victory"

What are we trying to win??? What's the prize???

"... while reminding us that as we struggle with holiday stress, our troops are sacrificing for our freedom."

Saddam Hussein was not a threat to my freedom. The people who masterminded 9/11 are still free.

"Attacks of every kind are down by at least half - in some cases by more than three-quarters. A wounded country's struggling back to health. And our mortal enemies, al Qaeda's terrorists, have suffered a defeat from which they may never fully recover: They've lost street cred."

I doubt they ever had much "street cred" in the first place. I don't think we do either.

how do these reports of success square with the reports of 20% of the population being internally displaced and the death toll of our invasion and occupation being above the 1 million mark?
