Reporting on the continually improving situation in Iraq, Damien Cave and Alissa Rubin of The New York Times report on the security improvements in Baghdad and the effect on the local population. This article is especially striking due to the dearth of coverage in the Times regarding the progress being made in Iraq. With such undeniable gains being made in the situation on the ground, tens of thousands of residents are now returning to their homes and reopening their businesses.
“Our aim is to fight terrorism,” Mrs. Aasan said. “We want them to overcome their personal experiences.”
The library closed last year because parents would not let their children out of sight. Now, most of the children walk on their own from homes nearby — another sign of the city’s improved ease of movement.
A similar article this morning by Tina Susman in the Los Angeles Times reports that the Iraqi government has said that the worst is over in Baghdad. The Iraqis point to security statistics to show that American and Iraqi forces have "defeated the forces of darkness" in and around the city. The United States now believes it crucial the government in Baghdad take advantage of the relative calm to politically unify their government.
And in an editorial in Human Events, Major General Vallely and Fred Gedrich author an editorial discussing the need for an Iranian policy which matches the level of threat they pose to the United States. After discussing the dangers of the current Iranian government and its ties to terrorism, the authors state that “After years of hand-wringing and failed diplomatic efforts dating back to the Carter presidency, Americans deserve a policy commensurate with the security threat. It must be one that drives the current Iranian thugs from power.” |

This (the counter-insurgency) is precisely what was needed all along. Americans are accustom to quick action and even quicker results. We will all soon see just how our fortitude and resolve have really made the country of Iraq a better place for all.

American Leadership popularity formula:
1. Create a monumental mess 2. Ignore it for a while while it festers 3. Pay attention to it and and cause some modicum of improvement. 4. Pat yourself on the back for all the wonderful progress you are making.
People who support the Iraq welfare program are a stain on conservatives.

In regards to 'some' of comments submitted here on November 20, 2007.
Simplistic, smart-alecky, sarcastic comments are generally the last refuge (usually the only refuge) of the severely under-educated. This is also often true of all the self-serving, 'deceitful', and dishonest people of this world.
A last refuge for self-indulgent, narcissistic people such as: Hollywood celebrities, 'popular' musicians, and big-media Journalists. As well as the occasional 'hero-politician(s)': who've sold their soul(s) in exchange for campaign contributions, Committee Chairs, and US Senate Seats.
Of course, all you 'clever' folks out there can't be bothered with such complicated 'things' like reality can you?

This is also true of Ad hominem attacks.
You have nothing Demogorgon. You are a cheerleader. You are fond of calling those who disagree with you uneducated. What are your credentials? What makes you so wise in the ways of world politics?

The last time we drove an Iranian thug from power we started the mess that gave us the present regime. I wonder what wonderful gifts further intervention shall bring. Sounds like we are going to repeat the mistakes of Carter. Oh, and just a little FYI:
Iran doesn't have the bomb or a way to deliver it to American soil. If they ever nuke anybody their country will be converted to a smoking tomb. They pose very little threat to the United States, so relax.

This is great news. I think we should organize a group of patriotic tourists to begin vacationing in Iraq. It is clearly now a paradise.
And, if any of the anti-american defeatacrats sneak onto the tour, we can shoot them. Won't that be fun?
