More Political Progress in Iraq

Iraq's parliament passed three more important pieces of legislation today, continuing the political progress made since the adoption of the surge strategy has increased security around the nation.
The legislation passed today included setting a date for provincial elections and a plan for devolving power from the central government back to the provinces. There was also a compromise with the semi-autonomous Kurdish northern regions for 2008 spending levels, as well as limited amnesty for Iraqis currently in custody.
Just three days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the surge "a failure" due to the lack of political progress, this legislation illustrates that the Iraqi parliament is, in fact, moving in the right direction. The United States wasn't made over night, and it will take the Iraqi people some time to build a lasting nation of peace and prosperity. But progress IS being made, and will continue to as long as security in the nation allows. |

Nothing but crickets chiorpibng arounf this blog. I suppose you realize this is what happens--the natural result when postings you don't like to hear have been summarlly and arbitrarily removed and censored rather than debated fully. Maybe that's the way you like it. Platitudes with attitude. Just like your "great leader" on the White House. Have fun. Yippee.

>>>>>>>> it is sad that a so called conservative website won't allow people to have differing opinions posted for others to read and discuss together.<<<<<< Looks like some prize the idea of segregation. So much for "Bring us Together. When Obama says he can bring us together, it seems so innocently quaint. Many on the right hate the left so much they consider democrats more an enemy than bin Laden. Ans so it goes... They prize the most divisive Administration in the history of the US. ..as long as they can call themselves patriots and those with better ideas about Iraq wars as traitors, it makes them feel good. That's how they think they will win an election ...by fear and bullyboy ways. Or if all else fails, using a packed Supreme Court to overcome the peoples' will as voiced by elections that are not valued as highly as their war agenda.

Don.stoned.king sez >>>>>>freedom not to be controlled by your government..... LIBERTY! <<<<< Wait a minute ,pal. It is your king who wants to monitor citizens' communications without warrants and without penalty and without oversight. That's the kind of stuff that Nixon would have sold his gonads for. And tha't the type of abuse you'd oppose if Obama wants the same abusive powers...pal. You spout liberty. And all you want is the abuse of power and more wars.... to show ill-used power or to compensate for your fear ...or hide your fear. If you like extra bonus earmarked pork barrel wars, raise your hand, volunteer yourself or your kids or your grandkids. If you wanna show how brave you are, volunteer.

"As a conservative I will say this, I do see liberals as an enemy. They are trying to take down everything this country is founded on, the freedom not to be controlled by your government..... LIBERTY!"
What are you talking about. It is GWB who has done away with habeas corpus, decided that he doesn't need a warrant to listen to an American Citizen's phone conversations, and subverted the will of the people with his ridiculous signing statements. He has done more to degrade our freedoms than any president in my life time. You are BRAINWASHED.

As a conservative I will say this, I do see liberals as an enemy. They are trying to take down everything this country is founded on, the freedom not to be controlled by your government..... LIBERTY! As far as you saying that conservatives are using fear to win an election, you must be mistaken, those are the democratic debates your watching. Every time I hear these democrates talk about the war I hear we're losing and we need to stick our tail between our legs and just go home. When the facts state differently, we are succeeding!! We are all in this country together, show some pride, stand up and stop pandering your liberal crap!

Yes Keeemosabe, it is sad that a so called conservative website won't allow people to have differing opinions posted for others to read and discuss together. This is exactly why conservatives are losing, why so many republicans are leaving the congress, because they see the writing on the wall and are leaving before they get trounced in another election. Too bad we don't have true conservatives in congress, who know how to discuss and convince other members of the rightness of their arguments and policy decisions, instead of shouting out and trying to drown other members words before they even reach ears. So sad.
